What's happening at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School?
Lo-Ellen Park students win at the Laurentian University Engineering Design Challenge !
Twenty-five grade 10 & 11 students from Lo-Ellen Park had the opportunity to attend the inaugural engineering design challenge at Laurentian University Bharti School of Engineering on Thursday. Students from Lo-Ellen had the opportunity to tour the brand new Cliff Fielding Innovation Building at LU and were able to try out VR gaming, designing tea blends using a “TeaBot” robotic tea dispenser and learn about the principles of design.
At the end of the day, LEP students participated in a design challenge guided by staff and students of the School of Engineering. Students worked in groups to design a simple, self propelled vehicle to transport a water bottle a distance of 3m using common household supplies such as CDs, elastics, balloons, cardboard, paperclips and so on. The top two teams were from Lo-Ellen Park…. Woohoo! Congrats go out to Abbie Glass, Chandyn Bachiu, Josh Poxleiter and Ryan Houle who finished in first place and took home some LU swag as a part of the top prize! Congrats to all of LEP designers and innovators that participated in the day’s events at LU!
