What's happening at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School?
Lo-Ellen Robotics out in the Community
On Monday, June 4th, students from the LoEllen Robotics team attended two outreach events as part of their post-season schedule. The first presentation was with one of the team sponsors, 3rd Line Studios. Later that day, they visited Macleod Public School to teach students about FIRST and to demo the 2018 robot, Telesto.
The presentation to the staff at 3rd Line Studios took place in their downtown office. Students gave a general explanation as to how FIRST Robotics works, and then jumped into further detail about this year’s game. There was discussion of the learning processes that came out of this season, various challenges, and proud moments. Sponsors are an integral component of the robotics team; without them, it would be near impossible for the team to be where it is today. Lo-Ellen Robotics is incredibly thankful for 3rd Line Studios’ help this year, and looks forward to collaboration in the future.
At Macleod, the team representatives presented to students in grades three to eight. In the presentation, the team explained FIRST Robotics, our history, and introduced First Lego League (FLL). After the presentation, there was a question and answer period which far surpassed expectations. Students and teachers asked many questions about the programming and building of our robot. This fall MacLeod will be starting two FLL teams where students can experience what First Lego League has to offer. It also offers an excellent window into the First Robotics Competition and introduces young students into the world of STEM. Members of our robotics team were impressed with the engagement and excitement of the students, and look forward to working with them in the future.
